I Survived The Birthday Party!

Oldest Urchin's pool birthday party was last Saturday night, and I did not walk away unscathed. (Shocking, I know.)

First, as we came to a stop at the end of our street on our way to the pool, the crockpot containing hotdogs that I'd been cooking most of the day, tipped over and spilled its entire contents--greasy water and all--onto the floor of the minivan. (Our beleaguered van is over a dozen years old, and apparently angers the local deer population as its been attacked by one deer and had numerous near misses.)

Based on smell, and yes, a little on appearance, I am now the pilot of the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile.

Ahh, the glory of my life.

Since the hot dogs and mac-n-cheese were the main staples of what I was serving that night, we had to stop and buy emergency pizzas on the way.  Little Caesar's was the only place en route. I'll just say here, I'm not a fan.

In the over-exuberance of Oldest Urchin and her friends, the beginning of the party resembled the caddy swim in Caddyshack. Thankfully minus the doody.

And what is it with giving cash to an eleven year old? At least 3 of the kids gave Oldest a card with five bucks inside as their present. Totally weird.

In the end though, a good time was had by all. And as we drove away into the sunset, the smell of overcooked hot dogs wafting from our open windows, the girls declared it a rollicking good time. So for my sanity and the sake of the photo album, I'm calling it a total win.

So. How was your weekend?

Bummer! Sorry about the hot dogs. At least no candy bars were floating in the pool.

Ouch for spilling the water in the car. I've seen the Weiner mobile driving around but didn't know it was you. My kids were about that age when they all started giving each other cash for birthday parties.

It sounds like a rollicking good time - except for the hot dogs. :)
I had a pretty good weekend with lots of running here and there with my family.

The Weinermobile! I remember, as a kid, I wanted to go for a ride inside that thing so bad. :P

$5 is nice when you're a kid...and it adds up fast.

Oh wow, the Weinermobile! Hopefully you can find some way to get that smell out. But the girls had fun. That's what matters most. :) I had a relaxing weekend with no wieners.

That's unfortunate about the hot dogs! I rather like Little Caesar's especially because they've got pizzas already made you can just go pick up without notice. Plus, they're bread sticks are awesome. But I just love bread.

Anyway.

I think the cash giving thing is mostly likely due to not knowing what to get the other person. I tend to get gift cards if I'm not sure. But also, I'm an adult and most my friends want cash anyway.

Oy. Hot dogs + hot van. Poor you!

I'm not a fan of Little Caesar's either, but it saves the day sometimes. ;)

Sorry about your hot dog incident! At least you survived another birthday party!

(That's a little unusual about the cards and money. My son received a lot of gift cards on his birthday. I guess that's quick and easy for parents.)

Glad you survived rampaging 11-year-olds, being swamped with hot dogs, and occasional deer attacks. What will next week bring? Tune in for next week's episode of "I Didn't Sign Up for This!" LOL Have a great weekend!

That sucks about the hot dogs. I hate spilling food in the car. And Little Caesar's was probably like this when you walked in...
